When Stouffville Toyota Says Drive Clean...They Mean Clean.

Consider the Toyota Prius; classed as an SULEVa Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehiclealso AT-PZEV: an Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emission Vehicle. You know its clean when new acronyms must be coined to describe it.

The estimated fuel efficiency rating of the 2009 Prius is 4.7 L/100 km. Based on U.S. official ratings in that same year, the Prius was rated the most efficient car powered by liquid fuel available.

If youre looking for a used Toyota, to lower the ticket price, consider the advantages in the 2004-to-2008 XW20 Prius. It uses an industry-first, all-electric A/C compressor for cooling, and features an electric power steering system to minimize engine belt-driven engine accessories. Its NiMH battery is smaller and lighter than those of its predecessors, and this battery pack is warranted for 160,000 km or 8 years.

If a used Toyota means a 2005 to 2008 model, the second generation Prius might be the auto you seek. Built and sold inside this four-year window, Toyota reduced the Prius price in 2008 by 8 percent, so this can be considered when you offer a purchase price.

The third-generation Prius, released in 2009, has a 1.8L, 98 hp engine. Add to that the power of the electric motor and the horsepower jumps to a total of 134. The larger engine displacement allows for increased torque, reducing RPM to improve fuel economy at highway speeds.

This third-generation Prius also has an electric water pump, so is the first production engine that does not use accessory belts. The electric motor and other hybrid power components are also smaller than industry average, hence adding to the efficiency rating, as the inverter/motor/transaxle weight comes in 20 percent lighter than the Gen II model.

Also, the 2009 Prius turns on with a start button, so is ready to drive immediately with the electric motor. The electric pumps warm the engine with previously-saved hot engine coolant before the combustion engine is started...the delay between electric and combustion engine start-up is about seven seconds. An EV button maintains electric vehicle mode after start-up and under low-load driving conditions, so permits quiet, no-fuel-consumption short-journey trips.

When the Prius first came out, it was dubbed "Hollywoods latest politically-correct status symbol" since so many celebrities bought and drove a Prius. Several companies in the USA offered cashback incentives to employees purchasing the car.
